The present invention relates to a method for fabricating a liquid crystal display and, more particularly, to a method for fabricating a liquid crystal display that can reduce a residual voltage in liquid crystal cells.
2. Discussion of the Related Art
Generally, a liquid crystal display is fabricated by arraying pixels in a matrix form to individually control the light transmittance of liquid crystal cells in response to video data, thereby displaying a desired picture image. Such a liquid crystal display includes a plurality of thin film transistors formed at intersections of a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines, liquid crystal cells connected to the thin film transistors to drive the liquid crystal cells by data signals applied through the thin film transistors, a plurality of storage capacitors formed at intersections of the gate lines and data lines in order to store electrical charges of the data signals and to compensate for the electrical charges removed from the liquid crystal cells, a plurality of pixel electrodes formed at the liquid crystal cells, a plurality of common electrodes formed over the pixel electrodes, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes. The plurality of storage capacitors are formed as a part of the thin film transistor.
FIGS. 1A to 1C are cross-sectional views showing a conventional method for fabricating a liquid crystal display. First, as shown in FIG. 1A, a first gate pattern and a second gate pattern are formed on an insulating substrate 10 by patterning a first gate line GL1, a second gate line GL2, a third gate line GL3 and a fourth gate line GL4. The first gate pattern is formed to overlap the second gate pattern, and the second gate pattern is formed to overlap the third gate pattern and the fourth gate pattern.
